  • Whistling while you drive

By Not a fan on Saturday, June 13, 2020

    2.0
Purchased Limited at the end of March. Right away I noticed a whistling sound while driving on the freeway from front passenger door frame area. I thought maybe the AC vent was closed and didn't think much of it. Due to pandemic, I didn't go anywhere that required driving on the freeway to investigate more. Fast forward a few weeks later, I noticed the whistling sound again at 45mph and the faster I drove the louder it got. Took it to a local Toyota dealership and they did not know how to fix it. (It is not the weather strip) Took it to the dealership where I purchased the car, and they held onto the car for 5 days to try to fix the issue. There were partially able to fix the issue. Now the whistling starts at 70mph. Took it back and since they were not able to recreate the noise at 65mph or less, there is nothing they could do. I like the car don't get me wrong, but that whistling noise is a deal breaker. It is a very nice car and I enjoy the redesign and the amenities but buyer beware! The test drive I didn't go over 35 mph so I didn't hear the sound, but if you plan on getting this vehicle, listen for the whistling sound, because they do not have a fix fo this. Truly disappointed for a great car.

I have purchased 2020 highlander limited a month ago. I have waited almost 5 years to find the right one for me. This highlander limited has a mean aggressive look and LED head lights. Better looks than previous models. 2nd row has better leg room and very comfortable. Seats recline and nice. 1200 watts stereo is clear and awesome. Sounds better than my s class. Safety features already saved me from hitting backing up. I wanted to get 4runner but outdated and obsolete. Too bad.... I really like this one. So cal gets hot, this car has ventilated seats and heated seats. Believe me you ll like it. Only con is small fuel tank only goes 300miles. Old 4runner of mine traveled 360 miles.
  • Doors too small and excessive road noise

We went out to test drive a number of new vehicles before we made our purchase decision. The Toyota Highlander was one we thought would fill out needs but soon discovered some serious flaws. First is the lace or door opening to get in and out along with a too small foot well for my size 13 feet. Add to this is excessive road noise. We wanted to make sure it was the vehicle that was the problem and we next drove a new Chevy Blazer over the same stretch of highway. The differences were remarkable in the two vehicles. So much so we ended up buying the Blazer. I am an amputee and 6 ft. tall along with my weight north of 200 lbs. The Highlander was a real problem for me to get in and out of with any ease. The footwell area was far too small for my feet. The power on both was great with the V-6 engine as was the handling. The Toyota has a rather useless 3rd row of seating v. the 2 row seating in the Blazer. Gas mileage is virtually the same on both vehicles.
